Smart Label with connection to SAP ERP system

August 27, 2020

Faubel and Sycor develop joint solution for digital intralogistics.

The digitalization of processes is making its way into many companies. The partnership between the RFID and e-paper technology specialist Faubel from Melsungen and the IT service provider Sycor from Göttingen enables dynamic labeling of objects. E-paper displays controlled via RFID tags interact with SAP ERP processes. RFID data can be exchanged and processed directly with SAP ERP systems via a mobile device. The e-paper display depicts the current and variable data stored on the RFID tag. Logistics processes are thus optimized and made paperless.

Smart Label ermöglichen eine dynamische Beschriftung von Objekten in der internen Logistik.

Smart Labels enable dynamic labeling of objects in internal logistics.

With its RFID Competence Center, Faubel has many years of expertise from which the smart labels were developed. These are e-paper-based labels with populated RFID tags. The information from the tags is made available on an e-paper display. In contrast to conventional paper labels, the displayed texts, numbers, codes or pictograms can be updated at any time during the running process. Classical paper labels are thus replaced. Smart Labels are therefore an ideal marking for objects that require dynamic labeling. This marking is particularly useful for reusable containers in Kanban and closed-loop processes. The Smart Labels are battery-free and are therefore maintenance-free, durable and versatile. Depending on the object and the application, they can be screwed, glued, inserted or attached by a Velcro.

Complete system integration
Visualized information on products and containers in internal logistics can be guaranteed via the Smart Label. Here, data is exchanged via a mobile device that is directly connected to the SAP ERP backend system. Sycor takes over the integration of data exchange and processing in business processes. "Sycor has supported us for many years with SAP ERP topics and has many years of experience and the necessary know-how with our products. Since SAP is one of the leading software providers in the German-speaking world in supply chain processes, we decided to jointly develop an integrated solution that we can implement together," says Frank Jäger, Managing Director at Faubel.

The continuous data exchange between the smart label and the SAP ERP system ensures efficient work. Manual data entries are no longer necessary, process information can be passed on for tracking. This shortens processing times, keeps data up-to-date and establishes processes. "Together with Faubel, we offer a complete solution that digitalizes logistics processes, designs them efficiently and has a direct impact on SAP ERP processes," says Oliver Mittermeier, head of the Managed Service SAP unit at Sycor.
