10 tips for optimizing your supplier evaluation in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain

September 3, 2024

Discover the power of Microsoft Dynamics 365: Our blog series provides you with detailed information and tips & tricks for optimizing your Microsoft Dynamics 365 solution.

In an ever-changing global economic landscape, efficient and robust supply chains are the backbone of successful businesses. The introduction of the Supply Chain Act has fundamentally changed the dynamics of supply chain management. This law requires companies to respect and protect human rights and environmental standards in their supply chains. At the same time, the European Database on Medical Devices (EUDAMED ) has set new standards for the transparency and traceability of medical devices. Both developments have underlined the importance of thorough supplier assessment.

This blog article offers ten tips on how to optimize your supplier evaluation with Microsoft Dynamics 365 to strengthen your supply chain and keep your business on track for success.

  1. Use automation: Utilize automated evaluation of purchase orders and goods receipts for criteria such as on-time delivery and quality inspection results.
  2. Configure evaluation criteria: Customize the evaluation criteria and their points catalogs (scoring system), as well as the weighting between the criteria to your specific needs.
  3. Use data intelligently: Use data that is already available to the system and easily record additional, freely defined criteria.
  4. Allow manual intervention: Even though automation offers many advantages, you should always keep the option open for manual intervention.
  5. Use compliance & risk management: Identify and minimize potential risks and ensure that suppliers meet legal and industry-specific requirements
  6. Integrate document management: Integrate a system to manage and verify supplier documents and certificates.
  7. Leverage reporting & notifications: Utilize integrated reporting capabilities and Power BI for analysis and reporting.
  8. Integrate processes: Seamlessly connect with other processes such as purchasing and warehouse management to give you an overview of the entire production chain.
  9. Observe standards: Make sure your supplier assessment supports the relevant standards (e.g. MDR, FDA, ISO 13485, ISO 9001, GxP) to ensure your company maintains quality and compliance in its supply chains.
  10. Consider industry-specific requirements: Dynamics 365 allows you to incorporate criteria and standards specific to your industry into the assessment and qualification process. This ensures that your suppliers not only fulfill your internal requirements, but also meet the specific requirements and standards of your industry.
