Gerweck, a midsize surface finishing enterprise, has fully committed to diversification and growth with the investment in a strip electroplating line. To support its chosen course with future-proof IT systems, the company introduced an SAP Business All-in-One solution in partnership with Sycor.
Gerweck is a service provider for electroplated surface processing and coating of metals and light metals. With modern facilities and the conservation of resources, the family company founded in 1981 has established itself as a series component supplier for the automobile, electrical, jewelry, and coin industries as well as companies in the fields of telecommunications, medical technology and decorative electroplating. "We have fully committed to diversification and growth with the investment in a strip electroplating line,“ is how Martin Neufang, CEO of Gerweck, describes a landmark company decision. "It was clear to us that we would need future-proof IT systems to support our chosen course. We looked for an ERP system that would map the entire logistics process for surface finishing."
By the end of the systematic selection process, it was established that an SAP Business All-in-One industry solution would be implemented. Neufang explains the reasons for this choice as follows: "First of all, the SAP solution offers a full range of ERP functionality, even for midsize enterprises. Complemented by best practices and industry processes, it constitutes a convincing overall package." Last but not least, SAP ERP is very common among Gerweck's customers, so optimum integration with their logistics processes is achieved by using the same software. "Sycor impressed us with the right mix of expertise for midsize enterprises and the industry, backed by proven references in surface engineering,“ says Gerweck CEO, Neufang.
Dietmar Lohr, Sycor project manager, explains the key challenges related to the SAP ERP implementation at Gerweck: "Successfully mapping the very specific and complex logistics process of electroplating, from receipt of the customer order to the invoice, takes experience. With the batch traceability we embedded, the rings delivered by the customer which serve as carriers for the metal parts can be tracked precisely." The Sycor team also created an asset ledger as the central feedback point for the overall documentation of the value creation process. Martin Neufang, Gerweck's CEO, is very satisfied with the results of the SAP implementation: "Based on the SAP Business All-in-One industry solution, Sycor developed a system for us that maps and fully integrates our processes. Scalability on the one hand and expansion options on the other hand, give us security for the future." The company is already planning to implement quality management and financial accounting as well.
